[Istanbul Strait Road Tunnel Crossing Project]

- The project route crosses the Bosphorus Straits, which separates the European and Asian continents. Currently, there are two bridges crossing the straits; Bosphorus and Faith Sultan Mehmet Hoprusu Bridge, but traffic volumes demand additional intercontinental transportation networks.
- Total length for the project is 14.6 km, with a 5.1 km long tunnel section. The main part of the tunnel crosses under the Bosphorus Straits. Planning and design for this section had to take into account the soil characteristic, a combination of soft soil and bedrock, and the high hydraulic pressure. Shield TBM method was chosen for its stability.
- Shield TBM tunnel length is 3,340 m, and the type will be two levelled to ensure efficient and economical planning.
