06.11.17 ~ 07.03.16 / Korea Development Institute

The project aims to improve the extremely poor alignment of the section between Chilgog - Gunui counties of the National Aid Provincial Road No. 79. Following the National Aid Provincial Road Mid- and Long-Term Plan (2001), construction costs and feasibility were reviewed. As part of these tasks, estimation of traffic demand, scale of facilities, costs and economic study were performed.  The project section provides access to the Palgong Mountain Provincial Park and other tourism sites, and will strengthen the regional economy, after it has been widened from the narrow lane width, and the poor alignment has been improved. The tasks included investigation of the design standard and scale of facilities in the existing detailed design. Construction costs were decreased by 150,000 USD by adjustment of the type and amount of drainage and road safety facilities. Another reduction, 2,000,000 USD, was achieved by improvement of the Palgong Mountain Tunnel (length 3,600m) design. The project lacked economic feasibility. However, the project would contribute to balanced regional development. It would also link with the privately funded Yeongcheon - Sangju Expressway (4 lanes), and offer access to the Jungang Expressway and National Road no. 5 in the northern areas of Daegu. Therefore, the results of the study suggest that further promotion of the project could be desirable.
