[Pre-Feasibility Study for Indeokwon - Byeongjeom Double Track Railway]
2006.05.01 ~ 2006.11.30 / Korea Development Institute
There are several land development projects currently underway or planned in Suwon, including Suwon Jeongja and Hanil Town, as well as Gwanggyo Technovalley and Homaesil area. However, the transportation network linking the area south-west of Seoul (Suwon, Hwaseong, Anyang, Uiwang) to the metropolitan transportation network in Sadang and Dongjak in Seoul is poor and inefficient. The planned railway route would connect Indeokwon Station (Subway Line No. 4) in Anyang with Byeongjeom Station in (Subway Line No. 1) in Hwaseong, and has a total length of 24.5km, Pre-feasibility study was carried out in cooperation with Korea Development Institute (KDI) between May and November of 2006.
The project route includes 9 stations. In selecting the route, the existing Indeokwon - Gwacheon, Suwon - Byeongjeom, and the to be built Sinbundang routes were also taken into consideration, as well as construction cost and traffic demands. Proposals for dividing the construction, or using a lump contract were investigated.
One of the main issues for the route is the high volume of commuter traffic travelling from Suwon, Osan and Hwaseong to the Gangnam District in Seoul. As the existing subway line has several stations along its route, total travel time is increased. Consequently, the project included a proposal for construction and operation of a new route would travel non-stop between Indeokwon and Sadang stations, reducing delays.
