[Pre-Feasibility Study for Widening the National Road No. 24 (Hapcheon - Changnyeong)] 06.06.08 ~ 06.09.07 / Korea Transport Institute

  • Feasibility for widening the 40km road section between Hapcheon and Daeji Counties from 2 to 4 lanes was investigated. For this project costs for widening and changing alignment were calculated to form the main data used in the economic analysis.

  • There are two main factors that determine the feasibility for this project. First, though traffic volumes on the project section are increasing, and there is space for widening, the recently completed Hamyang - Ulsan Expressway Feasibility Study indicates a poor feasibility. Second, the widening would require a construction of new 1km long bridge, raising construction costs. Consequently, the feasibility for widening the road to 4 lanes could not be confirmed. Instead, it is recommended that only the sections with poor alignment be improved.
