Pre-Feasibility Study for Asan Bay Industrial Railway
Korea Development Institute/2004. 4. 1~2004. 7.31

  • The railway aims to respond to the rapidly increasing freight demand of the Pyeongtaek Port and adjacent industrial park by connecting in the short-term with the Gyeongbu Line, and connecting in the long-term with the double track Seohae and Pyeongtaek - Wonju lines.
  • Improved transportation in the area is necessary for several reasons. First, it will help balanced national development together with the Seohaean Expressway. Pyeongtaek Port is also the gateway for trade with China (Qingdao, Shanghai). When relations with North Korea improve, increased trade is expected. In addition, as the U.S. army is moving its military bases to the area, there will be an increased need for transportation capacity.
  • Total route length was 34.6km, and it included 4 stations, 1 switching yard, and 1 signal box.
