Establishment of Metropolitan Transportation Plan for 5 Cities around Gwangju Region Korea Transport Institute / 2001.6~2001.12
  • The aim of the Gwangju Region Metropolitan Transportation Plan was to improve the efficiency of the 5 cities effected by the traffic of metropolitan Gwangju (Naju, Jangseong, Damyang, Hwasun, Hampyeong). Among the tasks in this project, the condition of the existing arterial roads was analysed and studied from the perspective of the metropolitan transportation system, a plan to suit the future traffic conditions and demand was established, new transportation systems were introduced, railway transfer facilities and public transportation system was improved, and an investment plan was established for the improvement of the existing bottlenecks and dysfunctional arterial roads.

  • 7 railway routes and 10 road routes for the transportation network, which correspond with the project scope, were selected, and three construction projects (Naju, Damyang, Hampyeong directions) to improve the public transportation system were introduced. For transfer facilities, plan for installation of 3 transfer centers, 6 Park and Ride facilities, and 1 transfer bus stop was established. 5 arterial roads that have been assigned for maintenance, as well as 13 other routes, which were subjects of local government projects, were inspected. In addition, 7 routes were selected to form a part of the metropolitan road network.
