The project was planned to connect Gyeongsangnam and Jeollanam Provinces, and ensure the transportation capacity needed for increasing transportation volumes following the development of the Gwangyang Port.

Total project length was 7,214m, including 1,726m of earth works, 4 bridges (1,420m), 3 tunnels (4,068m), and 1 station. Future development plans, urban plans, and other related plans were also used to improve the design.
