The project aimed to provide improved traffic convenience to the tourists visiting the area, as well as respond to the increasing transportation volumes following the development of the south-eastern Metropolitan Area.

The location for Lot 6 of the project is in Ilwon areas of Gwangju City. The project's total length was 8,442m, with 1,745m of earth works, 8 bridges (3,334m), 7 tunnels (3,353m), and 2 stations. Route alignment and tunnels were designed while considering the surrounding cultural and environmental areas.

Bridge types, arch and PSC box girder types, were selected to match the surrounding topography of the forests adjacent to Gonjiam River. The design was optimized using Value Engineering (VE) and Life Cycle Costs (LCC) analysis, as defined in the "General Measures to Improve Efficiency of Projects for Public Facilities" issued by the Ministry for Construction and Transportation.
