[Alternative Bid for Construction of Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway Lot 13-4]
2002.11 ~ 2003.02 / Korea Rail Network Authority
Sambo Engineering, in consortium with Hyundai Construction, was chosen to perform the alternative design for additional construction of the Lot 13-4 of the Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway, based on the strength of the submitted bid design.
The original project planning met with substantial public opposition. Priority in the alternative design was to respond to this opposition. Additionally, the alternative design needed to satisfy the requirements of protecting the ecology of the surrounding wetlands, cultural artifacts. The importance of minimizing disruption to these during construction has increased. Since the beginning of the previous detailed design in 1994, design and construction methods have also changed, requiring the applying modern methods to the design.
Consequently, Sambo Engineering established a design which ensured the protection of the wetlands and cultural artifacts, minimized public opposition by environmental improvement of the surrounding settlements, and ensured the stability of the long tunnel on the section, but following the slogan 'Let's construct an environmentally sustainable high-speed railway'.
The project section was located in the Yangsan area of Gyeongsangnam Province, and had a 4.825km of track, in addition to the total length of 13.28km of the Wonhyo Tunnel.
