[Design/Construction Package for Jeolla Line Yeocheon - Yeosu Railway Improvement]

The project aimed to ensure the transportation capacity for Yeocheon, Yulchon and Haeryong Industrial Parks, and provide capability for future high-speed service and cross-country railway network. Sambo Engineering, in consortium with Hyundai Construction, placed 1st in the competitive bidding for this project administered by Korea Railroad. Sambo Engineering oversaw the design for tunnels.

The total project length was 10.37km, of which 5,190m was comprised of Yecheon (L=1,923m) and Marae Tunnels, Manseong Bridge, and Yeosu Station. The line was upgrade from level 4 (90km/h) to level 2 (150km/h), and the route was shortened from 13km to 10.28km, decreasing transportation costs. Curve radius was increased, and the gradient alleviated. Tunnels were fitted with disaster prevention facilities. Bridge superstructures were lowered to improve openness, and the maintenance free railway structures were selected.
