[Design/Construction Package Works for Jeolla Line Improvement (Seongsan - Sinpung)]

This project comprises the extension of the improvement project for the Jeolla Line. Jeolla line connects the industrial belt of the southern coast with the south-north arterial railroad network, as well as provides access between the southern and eastern coast and the inland areas. Basic and detailed design for this project was performed from November 2001 to October 2002.
The project coprises 4,513.13 m of earth works, 3 bridges with a total length of 374.11 m, and 3 tunnels with a total length of 4,702 m. The project is expected to result in the improvement of transportation capacity from the Yeocheon National Industrial Park and the Yulchon - Haeryong industrial parks, and to reduce travel time and costs.
In particular, the improvement of the horizontal alignment on the straight and curve sections is expected to improve the efficiency of the project. Safety was ensured with installation of proper emergency evacuation facilities, and environmental damage and public opposition were minimized by applied the Carinthian-Cut construction method and appropriate reinforcement methods.
