[Bid Design for Construction of Gwangju Bypass (Lot 1) of Honam Expressway]

Gwangju Bypass project aims to promote balanced regional development and alleviate traffic congestions on the part of the Honam Expressway which passes through Gwangju city. Major structures on the section include Jangseong Tunnel, Jangseong JCT and a bridge crossing the river. Advanced technologies and construction methods were applied to reduce construction costs and period, and to improve the efficiency and economy of the project.

Major tunnels were built using NMT excavation method, first time in Korea, and precast lining. To achieve this, the Norwegian NGI was inivited to participate in the engineering works with Sambo Engineering. The new technologies allowed for reduced construction costs and period. The clover type junction between Honam Expressway and Gochang - Damyang Expressway was transformed into 2 level grade separated junction.
