1999.10.13 ~ 2000.10.17 / Korea Expressway Corporation, Daerim Industrial
The Cheongju - Sangju section of the existing Gyeongbu Expressway, running between Daejeon and Gumi, was constructed to promote transportation and balacned regional development in the area. Construction of this expressway, with a design speed of 120 km/h, was executed with environmentally friendly methods. Detailed design for 4 lane (width 23.4m) Lot 3, total length 8.6 km, located between Cheongwon and Boeun counties in Chungbuk Province, was implemented by Sambo Engineering.
Main works included the rehabilitation of the IC, 3 tunnels and 15 bridges. Total length of the tunnels was 2,402 m, and bridges 3,230, including the 1st Geoncheon Bridge, which was built as a PSC box girder type with FCM construction method, and rahmen bridge piers.
Bridge construction aimed to minimize vibration and noise pollution, and application of new technologies in the bridge design enable the improvement of the road capacity and reduction of construction costs. Safety and clearance from nearby residences was improved by lengthening parts of the rehabilitated IC.
