[Design/Construction Package Yeongdong Line Relocation (Dongbaeksan - Dogye)] 1999.06.07 ~ 1999.10.17 / Korail, LG Construction

The 19.6 km long section between Dongbaeksan and Dogye suffers from unfavorable alignment, and safety of operations on the track are endangered the aging tunnel structures, and by soil subsidence along the route. The route was inspected for safety in 1996, and the results suggested that relocation of the track would be preferable to rehabilitation and reinforcement works. Plan for the relocation was formulated by Korail, and Sambo Engineering performed the detailed design and construction tender design for the section between Dongbaeksan and Dogye.

Detailed design works included the design of stations, track bed, tracks, and ventilation facilities inside the major tunnels. Improvement of alignment and slopes helped minimize service interruptions and switch backs issues, and improved the safety of travel. Travel time was reduced from 34 minutes to 22 minutes.

The 15,597 long section included 1st and 2nd (length 1,090 m) Solan Tunnel, Dongbaek and Gyohaeng stations. Design speed for the 2nd grade railroad was set at 120 km/h.
