[Design/Construction Package of Lot 7 for Double Track Gyeongchun Line]

This project, comissioned by the Korail, was the first turnkey project in Korea. It aimed to increase mobility of goods in the north-eastern region by the construction of a double track railroad. Expected impacts were balanced decentralization of population concentration in the capital area, preparation for expected transportation demand, and promotion of tourism.
Project section, total length 12.1 km, was located beteen the Namsan and Sindong counties in Gangwon Province. Main structures included 2 stations, 8.2 km of tunnels (with 3,072 m long 1st Gangchon Tunnel), and 5 bridges (length 3.2 km). Of the total length of 12.1 km, Sambo Engineering was responsible for the 8.2 km of tunnel sections. The project also helped establish the standards for future turnkey design works in Korea.
