[Basic Design for Privately Funded Sosa - Wonsi Double Track Railway]
- This project, the privately funded Sosa - Wonsi Railway, is located between Sosa Neighborhood in Bucheon City, and Wonsi Neighborhood in Ansan City, and has a total length of 23.3 km, including 1.7 km of earth works, 16.9 km of tunnels, 4.5 km of earth excavation, 3 bridges (length 125 m). The track utilizes to existing Ansan train depot.
- As the line will connect with other rail lines, and is planned to become a main artery in the railway networks in the future, scale of structures was increased. The track is the first in Korea which is able to serve both metro passenger traffic as well as freight transportation at the same time.
- In the 3 stations which are expected to have low passenger demand (Sinhyeon, Yeonseong and Wonsi), space inefficiency was avoided by combining the entrance/exit gates with the passenger platforms. This innovation was also the first of its kind in Korea. In addition, the distance needed to reach the platforms for passengers transferring to the Ansan Line in Geongdan Station was reduced from the earlier 213 m to 128 m, leading to increase passenger convenience.
- As three of the stations are located within short distances from each other, Sambo Engineering took the bold steps of designing shared ventilation equipment. This reduced the number of needed ventilation sites from 10 to 4, as well as provided the passengers with safer centralized ventilation system in case of a fire.
