[Basic Design and Additional Services for Privately Funded Seoul 2nd Ring Road (Songdo - Sihwa)]
07.02.14 ~ 07.03.15 / Daewoo Construction
The project route connects Incheon Port, which is quickly becoming a gateway to Korea, with south-western areas of Seoul, as well as Ansan, Gimpo, and other cities in the Gyeonggi Province. It will provide capacity to the expected traffic growth from Songdo New Town, Gimpo landfill site, Ansan and Sihwa areas, and provide transportation capacity between these areas. Total road length for this project was 21.30 km, and the operation is expected to begin in 2016.
To minimize earth works, bridge locations were carefully assigned. In addition, bridge design was impacted by the basic designs for expansion of Songdo New Town and Sihwa area, as well as the need to prevent corrosion of the structures caused by proximity with the ocean.
For the section that crosses the Namoe Port wharfs and Daebu Island seawall (Songhwa Grand Bridge), safety and economic considerations led to the adoption of a movable scaffolding system (MSS) construction method for the superstructure, and barge + PC house construction method for the substructure.
The remaining bridge superstructures were designed as reinforced composite, PSC beam, and IPC girder types, based on economy and constructability. Substructures were designed as ¥ð and T types.
