 The project aims to provide a bypass of Daegu City on the Gyeongbu Expressway. As the Gyeongbu Expressway is connected with 7 other expressways (Jungbu, Jungang, Guma, Hyeonpung - Gimcheon, 88 Olympic, Busan - Daegu, and Daegu - Pohang expressways) as it passes through the city, traffic congestion is extremely common. By providing a bypass for this section, it will greatly lessen the congestion and help establish an efficient expressway network. With the plans for construction of new ports in Gyeongsang Province (Pohang Yeongilman New Port, Masan New Port, Ulsan New Port, Busan New Port), as well as industrial parks, reliance on the Gyeongbu Expressway will be lessened, and transportation are expected to fall with the direct connecting road to the Seoul Metropolitan area.

Total project length is 96.129 km, with road width of 23.4 m (4 lanes in each direction), 63 bridges (total length 8,246 m), 4 junctions, and 4 interchanges. The project will lead to a travel length reduction of 21 km (12 m reduction in travel time). Toll fee was set at 3,400 Won (approximately 3 USD).
