The project proposes the goal to link Hangang New Town in Gimpo with Seoul Subway lines 9 and 5, as well as the Airport Express, to provide transferring passengers services, and to alleviate the congestion problems on the National Road No. 48.
LRT systems are more ecological, offering improved urban air quality. The systems was planned with driverless linear induction motor cars, which offer excellent speeds and reliability. The project would contribute to the traffic infrastructure in the region, as well as balanced development of the north-western Seoul Metropolitan area.
Total project length was 23.56 km, with scope of facilities as 21.9 km of bridges, 226 m of earth works, cut and cover box (588 m), U-type box (211 m), 14 stations, 1 depot. The project was proposed to be organized as BTO type. Main planning and design issues were investigation of the Gimpo airport road and eco-bridge plans, and connection with the airport's Sky Park plans, as well as establishing a plan for cut and cover box and tunnel facilities within the airport to reduce construction costs.
