[3rd Proposal for Privately Funded Ui - Sinseol Urban Railroad (Light Rail)]
This privately funded project aims to improve the poor public transportation in the Ui, Mia, Samyang, Jeongneung and Sinseol areas in the northern part of Seoul, and to provide a urban railroad network for the balanced development and expected traffic volumes from the large-scale redevelopment projects of Mia New Town and Gileum New Town.
The project was organized as a Build-Transfer-Operate (BTO) project, with design by Sambo Engineering, construction by Daewoo Construction and Korea Development Corporation, and vehicle system of Korea-Automated Guideway Transit (K-AGT) system by Metrotech. The project comprised of 10.72 km of new track, 13 stations, 1 depot, and 1 control center.
Project costs were estimated at 750 billion won (approximately 600 million USD) excluding land acquisition costs. Lowering construction costs was a priority in the project. By adjusting the vertical alignment on a 3.7 km between starting point and station no. 107, to use a shield tunnel method, noise and vibration was minimized, passenger accessibility improved, traffic problems during construction resolved, and economy, constructability and environmental-friendliness was ensured.
