Basic Design for Privately Funded Hwado - Yangpyeong Expressway

The Hwado - Yangpyeong Expressway, together with the Seoul - Chuncheon Expressway, was established by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation as part of the plan for national arterial road networks. Thei cross the inland area, and connect with the Jungbu Naeryuk Expressway. The Hwado - Yangpyeong project was promoted as privately funded road protect do decrease the pressures on the public budget. Construction began in 2004, and was expected to be completed in 2008.

Sambo Engineering performed basic design for the privately funded section between Namyangju and Yangpyeong in Gyeonggi Province. Total length was 18.835 km, with 4 lanes in each direction, and design speed of 100 km/h. Yangpyeong - Ganam section is being promoted by Korea Expressway Corporation. Main facilities in the project section included Hwado JCT, Yangpyeong Toll Plaza, 8 tunnels, and 11 bridges. Locatyion for the Hwado JCT and the type of facilities was selected with consideration of the access road, entrance facilites, and economic and public factors.
